how do compounds/ molecules provide nutrition?
Within the human body, compounds and molecules are those that provide nutrition in order to allow a healthy lifestyle. By ingesting these nutrients, the different organs in our body are provided with health. Without the intake of the different molecules and compounds our bodies wouldn't be able to strongly thrive through life. The nutrients can be classified as lipids, carbohydrates and proteins. Each of these elements provide a certain aid to our body's health. In the case of lipids, they are molecules that are insoluble in water such as waxes, fatty acids, triglycerides. Carbohydrates are composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen; and lastly proteins are composed of one or more chains of amino acids. Water is also a main element that is needed in order for the survival of our bodies; as this makes up 72% of our bodies. Without these different molecules, our body would have a deficiency of molecules that are necessary to our bodies which would create certain unhealthy effects.
how are some topics in health/ nutrition controversial?
Topics that are known as being controversial through the understandings of health/nutrition are carbohydrates and lipids. Lipids as well as carbohydrates are necessary for a healthy diet. Nutritionists have the controversial understanding that the intake of these molecules can be harmful to your body which creates a false belief within their patients due to the lack of specificity. In the case of Lipids, these are divided into saturated (which have straight molecules making it harder for them to be broken down) and unsaturated (which have bent molecules making it easier for them to be broken down). These fats include acids such as Alpha-Linolenic Acids, Docosahexaenoic acids and
Eicosapentaenoic Acids which are necessary for health in our bodies. Since the saturated fats are difficult to be broken down these healthy acids are harder to be obtained while the unsaturated fats allow these substances to be obtained rapidly. Consuming fats are essential to our bodies, the controversy is whether or not to consume it and more specifically which fats should humans intake and why. Carbohydrates suffer a similar controversial situation at which nutritionists lack the ability to explain both the good and harmful intakes of carbohydrates making it confusing for the patient allowing them to create a general conclusion which states that all carbohydrates and (in the case of lipids) lipids are harmful to your body.
